As a user of Gutenberg, I really like where the plugin and block landscape is headed. Recently, Jamie Marsland put together a video in his block of the week series highlighting Webyx. This plugin allows you to create horizontally scrolling websites. I was impressed with the video, so I thought I would check it out. The plugin is terrific.

In the description of the plugin, it states that it is limited to the Twenty(s) series of themes which didn’t make a lot of sense to me — either it is Gutemberg, or it is not. It is. I tested here in Avada, Kadence, and GeneratePress, and in each, it works as expected. My Avada demo is about 10 minutes of work, so don’t expect much, and it did require a little custom CSS since Avada has not been updated to support the latest block features.

I can see this being a really nice slide-show generator or microsite builder. The only drawback I can see is that you can only assign one menu to all pages, so in-page navigation would have to be the same for all. I did submit a feature request to move the menu selection to the individual page settings rather than a single global selection.

The plugin can be found in the WordPress plugin library, and the developer’s website has some documentation and contact information. A pro version and a theme builder version are in the works, which I am really excited to see. According to an email from the developer, they have considered WCAG as part of their design, so accessibility should be good (provided you don’t screw it up).
